This 4th of July we celebrate being able to come together as an ARA community [safely distanced, of course]…watching our kids play “America’s Pastime” – and for at least a few hours, get our minds OFF the challenges these past 4 months have brought to our families. We’ll have music and a mic announcer stationed at various fields to make our games extra meaningful. ARA even phoned THE PENTAGON and requested the Blue Angels perform a MILITARY FLYOVER of our region ! (and they said YES because it was ARA who phoned)
We will have a quick, distanced grab and go snack tent between fields E and C sheds – get your exact change ready to drop off and grab – Gatorade [$2], Water[$1], Pretzels [$1], candy [$1] open from 9am-3pm ($5 Chick-Fil-A sandwiches arrive next weekend)
Also, our 11U is beginning their fundraising campaign for their 2021 Cooperstown Dreams Park culminating tournament – they will be selling spirit wear near that tent throughout the day – Check out the awesome ad below with none other than former PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES player DOM BROWN modeling a shirt HE PURCHASED alongside some 11U siblings !
FINALLY…circling back to the theme of July 4th – some of you may know that in the shadows of Valley Forge (home to our original military) nestled a mere FIFTY (50) paces beyond ARA's field "F" lies a small Revolutionary War cemetery. Interred there is Timothy Matlack…delegate to the 2nd Continental Congress and scribe WHO ACTUALLY PENNED THE ORIGINAL COPY OF OUR DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE IN 1776 !!!! But many of you also may be aware that for over a generation, TWO independent youth baseball/softball organizations have existed in our community, often leading to some tension and awkwardness over the decades. Although the current ARA Board has no idea who/what/why this historically evolved…we believe right now, more than ever, it is important for communities to come together and play as ONE TEAM. So, at our next Board Meeting (Monday July 13th @8:30pm zoom link to be emailed) ARA will be voting to consider commencing a formal dialogue at potentially merging the Methacton Baseball Association [MBA] with ARA. Although the exact details and discussions are way too early tbd, we believe this could be the first step in the right direction to bridging a youth sports divide that has existed in our community far too long. Please consider logging in if this topic [or any ARA topic] is of interest to you. As a symbolic gesture of this potential commitment, participants from MBA (once they begin practices) will eventually be visiting to play against ARA members in our Boys American League Division (ironically on field F) later this July. Hmmmm…”American” League...Baseball ...Valley Forge…Military Flyovers…July 4th …to quote Philadelphia’s Hero, Rocky Balboa - ”if I can change, and you can change…EVERYBODY can change !”
